Welcome back to Tierra Atacama!
In September, our award-winning boutique hotel in San Pedro de Atacama reopened its doors to welcome guests from all over Chile, who have come to enjoy some well-deserved vacation time in the desert.
Millions of people across the globe join together on April 22nd each year to celebrate this important day for the environment. For Tierra Hotels, it’s a very special date – after all, our name “Tierra” literally means “Earth” in Spanish. This day represents the spirit of what we do and the type of tourism we promote, respecting nature with concrete actions, alongside local communities.

Why is the Atacama Desert called the “driest desert in the world”?
One of the most impressive places in the north of Chile is San Pedro de Atacama. Not only do its landscapes look like they’re on another planet, but also its soil, which is used by scientists to simulate the experience of stepping on Mars. The wind flow, the ocean currents and the surrounding mountains are some of the factors which create these fascinating and unique conditions.
Regenerate with the energy of the desert
The nature of San Pedro de Atacama and its surrounds leave an indelible impression for its incredible beauty and history. It also offers visitors the ideal setting for deep rest and adventure. Claudia Labbé, Guest Relations Manager at Tierra Atacama, invites us to discover this extraordinary and lovely place in the north of Chile.
Desert Astronomy – Atacama Desert Night sky
If you enjoy stargazing, you definitely must visit San Pedro de Atacama. The sky in this remote area of northern Chile is considered by scientists from around the world to be the perfect site for installing modern telescopes which allow them to study the universe as never before. In their studies they have found, among other things, one element that the ancient Atacameñan people understood very well.
Two-wheeled excursions are a great way to get to know new places and experience local life and nature up close. On this World Bicycle Day, we invite you to daydream about stunning, diverse landscapes that you can explore with us at Tierra Hotels.
