The Torres del Paine W Trek, Tierra style

Diego Salas

Torres del Paine National Park is one of the most famous and beautiful places in the south of Chile. Tourists from around the world make the journey to visit it and enjoy its trails. Forests, lakes, rivers, mountains and glaciers all form part of the magical geography which make up the unforgettable landscapes along this adventure.

Within this 1,814 km² park, there are different paths that are made for safe hiking. The Torres del Paine W Trek, which gets its name from the figure that the route forms on a map, is the most well-known, since it ties together the most iconic points of this marvelous place.

Normally, this multi-day trek requires camping and sleeping in the refuges within the Torres del Paine National Park. The long distances and the weather conditions of this austral zone, mean that adventurers who choose this option must carefully prepare every detail and carry their tents and full backpacks.

Guests at Tierra Patagonia can opt to complete the Torres del Paine W Trek in a different way. The excursion guides, with years of experience, take charge of planning the journey, considering the interests and physical conditions of each guest. There is no need to camp in the park, and the transfers to and from the hotel are included, where it’s also possible to enjoy the spa.

The heated pool and outdoor jacuzzi in front of the Torres del Paine, massages, natural therapies and even yoga classes, are all part of an experience that compliments the adventure. Each morning, after breakfast, the guides at Tierra Patagonia will take the guests to the starting point for their excursions.

The W hiking route has three destinations: the hike to the Base of the Towers, which starts from a 35-minute drive from the hotel; French Valley, an hour away; and Grey Bridge, a 1.5 hour transfer from the hotel. This last stop includes sailing in a Catamaran which allows people to get up close to the Grey Glacier. Without a doubt, it is an incredible experience with one of the most spectacular natural wonders of Patagonia.

To meet these goals, we depart from the hotel very early in the morning and return before it gets dark. The constantly changing climate of this place in the extreme south means that we must be well-prepared and use the appropriate clothing. Our team of guides recommends using hiking clothes and shoes to avoid any problems. It’s very important to feel comfortable during the long hikes and to bring a backpack with only the necessities: a water bottle, sunscreen, hat, gloves, and snacks provided by the hotel.

Everything is customizable. At Tierra Patagonia, you can live this experience your way and enjoy the impressive nature of the Torres del Paine National Park while accomplishing your personal goals. Ideally, when making your reservation, you should consider staying at least five nights, and let us know your interests so that we can prepare a tailor-made excursion plan for you. This way, when you visit, we’ll be prepared to welcome you with all you need for your adventure.
